A day in the life of a convict.
Convicts sent to Australia faced a far different life to that which they knew in England. Their daily life varied greatly depending on who they worked for. Many chose not to return to England at the end of their sentence while others were pardoned, given land-grants and became free settlers. Opening in 1785, this book gives the reader the identity of a convict who leaves an idealistic life in rural Britain to become a city thief. Sentenced in the Old Bailey, the convict is transported on the First Fleet, and finally gets a conditional pardon. It contains speech bubbles, maps, diagrams, humorous cartoons and graphics.
